Church History & the Fathers

Summer Conference: 12 - 15 August 2019

This course is designed for all who wish to learn about the historical background necessary to understand the development of Christian culture and of Catholic doctrine. Come and learn about Church History and the Fathers of the early Christian Church, whose writings shed light on the development of doctrine!

Fr Guy de Gaynesford leads the teaching team for this course. Fr Guy is the Rector of the School of the Annunciation. He studied history at Oxford University and has a Licence in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

      Fundamental Themes in Medieval Church History

      Themes in Modern and Contemporary Church History

      The Apostolic and Pre-Nicene Fathers

      The Post-Nicene Fathers of the Church

When does it start? 

The Conference begins at 5.00pm on Monday 12 August and finishes at lunchtime on Thursday 15 August. Full Room and Board included in the cost. The programme is designed to include lectures and seminars set within the rhythm of daily prayer of the resident Benedictine monastic community.

Accommodation: Northgate House

The course takes place in the tranquillity of the monastic surroundings, on the banks of the beautiful river Dart, and includes full board and en-suite accommodation at Buckfast Abbey's Northgate House

How much does it cost?    

Cost of the conference: The fee for the four days is £345. This fee includes accommodation and full board at Buckfast. In addition, there is a non-refundable registration fee of £50.

Early Bird Discount: £50 off for those who register and pay in full before 15 May, 2019.

Day-rate (lectures & lunch included): £60.
